    Mosaic course: Overview

This compact course takes place at the beginning of the summer semester and is offered once a year. The mosaic course gives you the opportunity to produce a mosaic piece measuring 25 × 25 cm using the indirect setting method.

You will learn the following: Material (glass), tools, procedure for crushing the glass material, fixing it to the mosaic paper and turning and embedding it in cement on a wooden board with subsequent loosening and removal of the mosaic paper and cleaning including filling the joints of the mosaic surface.

  • Studierende in der Wandmalerei-Werkstatt

    Mosaic course: General procedure

There are only approx. 2.5 – 3 days of practical skills available, so the choice of motif should not be too complicated: the more curves and the smaller the motif, the more (time) consuming.

The course takes place in the design rooms of the laboratory and workshop building in rooms 165 and 166.

    • glass selection (joint tour of the mosaic cellar),
    • workplace organisation: transporting glass material and equipment from the cellar to the workshop or design room,
    • setting up the workstations,
    • the selection of motifs and mirror-inverted redrawing on mosaic paper and
    • initial cutting and crushing of the glass material (from the basement room -103).
  • Aufkleben der Mosaiksteinchen
Aufkleben der Mosaiksteinchen mit Mehlkleber auf Mosaikpapier

Mosaic course: Second and third day

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the mosaic is set in a concentrated manner, also on Thursday morning, in order to then carry out the turning and transfer to the prefabricated slabs in the afternoon.
