Application and enrolment procedure

Enrolment is the enrolment in a specific degree program within the designated enrolment period (time window in which you can enrol). The enrolment process differs depending on whether the chosen degree program has restricted or open admissions. You can therefore find out about the procedure for allocating study places for your chosen degree programme on the respective degree programme pages.

Application procedure

The decisive question for prospective applicants is: "Is the degree programme admission-free or admission-restricted?" – You can find an overview on the sites of the degree programmes at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. You can find information on the status of the current main or advanced application procedure in MyCampus.

Admission-free

For an admission-free Bachelor's or Master's degree programme (no NC), an application for enrolment can be submitted within the enrolment period. All information on enrolment deadlines and documents to be submitted can be found here.

Enrolment

Limited admission

If the number of applicants exceeds the number of places available, a selection procedure must decide on the allocation. Interested students apply for admission-restricted degree programmes via the student portal MyCampus. If you receive a letter of admission, you must then enrol.

Those interested in these degree programmes Civil Engineering, Education and Childhood Education, Infrastructure Systems, Cultural Work and Social Work please note the information on the central allocation of study places.

Application requirements

School entrance qualification for higher education

As a rule, a school-based higher education entrance qualification enables students to study:

  • General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur)
  • Subject-related higher education entrance qualification
  • Fachhochschulreife (If you only have a certificate of the school-based part of the Fachhochschulreife, this is not sufficient. You can only obtain the full Fachhochschulreife together with the practical, work-related part. The school board in whose area of validity the school-based part was completed is responsible for awarding the Fachhochschulreife).
  • Subject-related entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences
  • Vocationally qualifying university degree

Without school entrance qualification for higher education

Entitled to study without a school-leaving certificate? That works! According to the Brandenburg University Act, under certain conditions it is possible to take up a course of study without a school-based higher education entrance qualification.

Study without A-Levels

University access with foreign certificates

Applicants who have obtained their school-leaving certificate abroad (foreign university entrance qualification) must have their university entrance qualification recognised for the state of Brandenburg by uni-assist e.V. or the Cottbus State Education Authority before applying for the 1st and/or higher subject semester.

International applicants

Numerus Clausus & Admission Limits

The Numerus Clausus (NC) means that there is a limited number of study places. These places are allocated according to the quotas specified in the selection procedures. Which values are sufficient to obtain a place changes depending on the number of places available and the number of applications.

An admission limit expresses the grade (usually the average grade of the Abitur or the grade of the selection procedure/aptitude test) or the number of waiting semesters (periods without enrolment at a German higher education institution since the acquisition of the higher education entrance qualification) of the last applicant admitted.

This article only deals with changes to information in the application form. If you want to change your personal or contact details (e.g. your name, address), please see the instructions under: "How can I change my personal data?".

Procedure for degree programmes with restricted admissions

As long as you have not yet submitted your application, you can change all the data in your application as you wish. After you have submitted your application (the application status will then be "received"), you must first withdraw it in order for it to be processed.

Changes are only possible within the application deadline. After you have processed the application, make sure you remember to hand it in again, otherwise it will not take part in the procedure!

Do not under any circumstances withdraw your application after the application deadline in order to change data! This will disqualify your application!

This is how you change data in your application:

  1. Log in to MyCampus.
  2. In the "My application" section, click on "To application". You will be directed to the overview page.
  3. Withdraw the application by clicking on Withdraw application. Confirm with "Yes".
  4. On the overview page you will find all the information you have already provided, e.g. on your university entrance qualification and previous career. Click on "Edit" in the section for which you want to change data or call up the entire application for editing by clicking on "Edit application".
  5. Change the data as desired and click on "Continue".
  6. Click on "Submit Application" to resubmit your application.

Please note that applications that have already been reviewed by the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (i. e. have the application status "valid" or "in progress") cannot be processed by you. The same applies after the application period has passed. If you would like to make changes in this case, please contact us by e-mail at: bewerbungs-service@fh-potsdam.de.

Procedure for degree programmes with open admissions

As long as your application is still in the application status "in preparation", you can still change the data regarding your higher education entrance qualification, your study history at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam as well as your enrolment at a German higher education institution on your own.

This is how you change data in your application:

  1. Log in to MyCampus.
  2. In the "My Application" section, click on "zur Bewerbung". You will be directed to the overview page.
  3. On the overview page, you will find all the information you have already provided, e.g. on your university entrance qualification and past studies at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. Click on "Edit" in the section for which you want to change data.
  4. Change the data as desired and click on "Continue".
  5. If all information is correct, confirm the affidavit and click on "Continue to enrolment application".

If you have already submitted your application by agreeing to the affidavit and clicking on "Continue to enrolment application", you can no longer change this data independently. Please then contact bewerbungs-service@fh-potsdam.de by e-mail for any changes to this data.

Alternatively, you can print out your control sheet (you will find it on MyCampus on the overview page, on the right in the Personal Information section), note the desired changes and send it to the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam together with your enrolment application. The staff will then make the changes for you.

Please proceed in the same way for changes to information you provide during online enrolment.

This article only deals with changing personal data. If you want to change data in your application (e. g. university entrance qualification, hardship application), please read "How can I change data in my application?".

To change personal data (such as name, address, e-mail address or telephone number), proceed differently depending on whether you are applying for a DoSV degree programme or not.

DoSV degree programmes

Applications for these degree programmes require registration at hochschulstart.de. After you have entered your BID and BAN in MyCampus, a link will be created between your account at Hochschulstart and your university application account. With this link, your personal data will be transferred from hochschulstart.de to the university's MyCampus - University Portal and will always be kept up-to-date. This means that you can only make changes to your personal data on hochschulstart.de. The changes are transferred from hochschulstart.de to the university's MyCampus university portal at regular intervals. Therefore, it may take some time before you can see the changes on the university's MyCampus university portal.

You can find more information on this in the online help of hochschulstart.de.

All other Bachelor's and Master's programmes

You can log into MyCampus of the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam at any time, even after submitting your application, and update your contact details. The change is valid immediately.

This is how you change your personal data:

  1. Log in to the MyCampus university portal.
  2. In the section "My application", click on "zur Bewerbung". You will be directed to the overview page.
  3. In the "Personal information" section, click on the section you want to edit, e. g. "Edit address".
  4. You can change existing data by selecting the relevant data and clicking on "edit", e. g. Edit selected address.

If you have entered several addresses, you can also select which address is to be used as the correspondence address. Select the address for this and click on Save. Your correspondence address will then be displayed in the right-hand area and "Personal information".

Please note that you cannot change some personal data, such as name, date and place of birth and nationality, on your own. To do so, please contact us by e-mail at: bewerbungs-service@fh-potsdam.de. Please also contact the Application Service if you want to change your data after you have already applied for enrolment.

If you are asked to submit application documents in your application checklist, you can alternatively print out your check sheet (you will find it in your profile on the subpage in MyCampus, on the right in the section "Personal Information"), note the desired changes and send it to the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam together with your application. The staff will then make the changes for you.

In case of incomplete documents, you will be informed via a status message in MyCampus. In the application portal you will receive information about missing or incomplete documents. You then have the option of withdrawing your application and reprocessing it. Upload the missing documents again as a PDF in the application portal and do not forget to submit the application again. Only then can it be considered again and your application will take part in the award procedure.

For sending/uploading the application or enrolment documents, the respective deadlines apply, which you can find in the application checklist or in the enrolment application. Please note that your application may not be considered or your entitlement to a place at the university may be forfeited if you submit your documents too late. In case of doubt, contact the Application Service as early as possible.

Procedure for degree programmes with restricted admission

If you have noticed an error in your university entrance qualification (HZB) after submitting your application, you must withdraw the application, process it and submit it again.

A second degree applicant is someone who has already completed a degree programme at a German higher education institution by the application deadline, has a certificate of successful completion and is applying for the first semester of an undergraduate degree programme (Bachelor) at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

According to the Brandenburg University Admission Ordinance, 3 % of the study places in degree programmes with restricted admissions are reserved for applicants for a second degree. The application must be accompanied by a written, informal statement of reasons. Further information can be found on the website under Second Degree.

Waiting period
Applicants can apply for an improvement of the waiting period if they were unable to obtain their higher education entrance qualification until later due to personal reasons for which they are not responsible (e. g. illness).

Grade
Applicants can apply for an improvement of their grade if they have achieved a lower average grade for personal reasons for which they are not responsible (e. g. illness).

Applications must be submitted in writing to the university together with suitable evidence (e. g. severely disabled pass or specialist medical certificate) when submitting the application. Further information can be found on the website under Compensation fpr Disadvantages.

Applicants can apply for consideration of an exceptional hardship case if serious health, social or family restrictions require the immediate start of the study programme or do not allow for a reasonable bridging of the waiting period. In each degree programme, 3 % of the places are awarded exclusively to these applicants.

An application for a hardship case must be submitted to the university in writing and with suitable evidence (e. g. severely disabled ID or specialist medical report) when submitting the application. You can find further information under Hardship Application.

As long as your application has the status "Received" and the application deadline has not yet passed, you can change the incorrect information yourself by withdrawing your application in MyCampus. Then click on "Edit application", remove the tick under "Hardship application" and submit your application again.

Attention: Do not under any circumstances withdraw your application after the application deadline! This will disqualify your application! For subsequent changes, please contact us by email at bewerbungs-service@fh-potsdam.de with your application number.

If you have noticed the error on the control overview before submitting the application, click on "back to overview" before submitting the application. Then click on "Edit application", remove the tick under "Hardship application" and submit your application.

The application checklist contains individualised information about your application. For example, you can see which documents you have already added to your application as an upload. Your application checklist is displayed in MyCampus when you submit your application and is only visible there until the end of the application phase. It can no longer be viewed later.

A DoSV programme is a programme that participates in the Dialogue-Oriented Service Procedure (DoSV) of hochschulstart.de. You can find out which degree programmes at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam participate in the DoSV on our website.

The University of Applied Sciences Potsdam uses the decentralised procedure for DoSV degree programmes. This means that you first register at dosv.hochschulstart.de, but submit the actual application via the MyCampus university portal. Your application to the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam will be linked to your account on hochschulstart.de using your BID and BAN, which you will receive from Hochschulstart.

The following information only applies to applicants who want to apply for a DoSV degree programme.

You will receive your applicant ID (BID) and applicant authentication number (BAN) after you have created a user account on hochschulstart.de. You need the BID and BAN to be able to submit your application in the MyCampus university portal. After you have completed your registration at hochschulstart.de, you can log in at dosv.hochschulstart.de with your self-selected user name and password. You can then view your BID and BAN under My Data.
