Anti-Semitism (Criticism) in Education and Social Work – Continuities, Gaps, Actualisations
The academic debate on anti-Semitism in institutional contexts of education and social work has a comparatively recent history. The lecture series will take place in the winter and summer semesters 2023/24.
Only with the increasing thematisation of contemporary antisemitism from Jewish perspectives and individual empirical studies on antisemitism in educational settings have antisemitism-critical and intersectional analyses developed in recent years. These have brought the effects of anti-Semitic structures and practices more to the attention of the specialised public.
The socio-political developments, the charged and politicised discussions about anti-Semitism in the post-national socialist, post-colonial society highlight the need for and challenges of anti-Semitism-critical and intersectional alliances and solidarity networks.
Against this background, we want to provide insights into the desiderata and updates of anti-Semitism-critical, intersectional research, education and social work in this one-year lecture series and explore recent developments together.
The lecture series is a cooperation between the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg, the University of Education Freiburg, the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and the Competence Centre for Prevention and Empowerment.
