On the 19th of June 2024, the "Sustainable Building" lecture series organised by the Brandenburg Chamber of Architects and the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam will focus on the topics of green surfaces, roofs and façades and will present innovative solutions for cooling urban spaces.

In the coming years, cities will increasingly suffer from overheating due to climate change and dense urbanisation. In his presentation, expert speaker Jacob Nolte will explain that the key to solving this problem may lie in the utilisation of transpiration cooling. He will discuss various forms of greening, including green roofs and façades, noise barriers, underground car parks and mobile trees and shrubs. He will place particular emphasis on water storage in order to maximise the necessary irrigation of the plants and thus the cooling effects.
Nolte will highlight the many benefits of greening buildings, ranging from protecting buildings and saving energy to improving the microclimate. The lecture will also emphasise the importance of greening roofs, walls, paths and squares for the urban climate and temperatures, which goes far beyond improving the quality of urban life.
