Female professors programme 2030: FHP receives award for gender equality concept
Potsdam University of Applied Sciences (FHP) has impressed the jury in the second selection round of the Female Professors Programme 2030 with its strong "Gender Equality Concept for Parity". In addition, the FHP was honoured with the title "University with Strong Gender Equality". The positive assessment by the independent review panel of the Joint Science Conference underlines the university's long-standing and successful gender equality strategy, which specifically promotes women and ensures more equal opportunities in science and research.
Data-based analysis as the basis for a sustainable gender equality strategy
The FHP's award-winning gender equality concept is based on a comprehensive data-based analysis of strengths and weaknesses, which analyses key areas of the university culture: the proportion of women in management positions, committees and professorships, the proportion of female academics in the qualification phase and the situation of female students. Specific goals and measures were derived from these findings in order to further develop the FHP in the areas of "learning organisation", "place of study", "employer", "place of teaching and research", "place for families" and "discrimination-sensitive place of learning and work".
Priorities: Attracting and developing women in top positions
The concept places a particular focus on attracting, retaining and maintaining the health of women in top scientific positions. Another core objective is the targeted personnel development of female academics in the qualification phase and the avoidance of drop-outs among students of the underrepresented gender. Female students with caring responsibilities for children or relatives in need of care will also continue to receive targeted support. Professional gender monitoring and controlling ensures that progress is made measurable and processes are further optimised.
Sandra Cartes, Equal Opportunities Officer at FHP, comments on the award: " The positive assessment and the award encourage me to continue pursuing the path we have taken of strengthening gender-equitable structures and processes on the one hand, but also providing individual support on the other. Thanks to the Women Professors Programme 2030, we will be able to put many of our plans into practice in the coming years."
Long-standing successes and positive developments
The FHP was already able to successfully acquire funding in the three previous rounds of the Women Professors Programme (2009, 2014, 2019). A total of seven female professors have been funded over the past 15 years, and the funds released from the federal and state funding have been channelled into measures to promote gender equality. This has led to a considerable boost in equality: the FHP now has an above-average proportion of female professors, lecturers and students compared to the rest of Germany. It is also known for its family-friendliness and anchors gender aspects in teaching and research across all disciplines.
Professorinnenprogramm 2030
The Professorinnenprogramm 2030 is a joint initiative of the federal and state governments in Germany that aims to increase the proportion of women in top academic positions at universities and promote gender equality. Since 2008, the programme has been supporting universities in appointing more female professors and establishing structures that promote gender equality. The fourth phase of the programme, which runs from 2023 to 2030, provides a total of 320 million euros. New in this phase is the introduction of a standardised "Gender Equality Concept for Parity at Universities" for all participating institutions as well as the "University with Strong Gender Equality" award for particularly convincing concepts. The aim is to sustainably improve the representation of women at all qualification levels and to promote a cultural change towards gender-equitable structures at German universities.
