Sustainable Urban Planning Strategies for Developing Urban Growth Models in Uzbekistan

Presentation/Lecture

Dr Arch. Nazarova Dinara will be a guest at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam on 3rd of July. She will present her research on sustainable urban development in Uzbekistan.

Dr. Arch. Nazarova Dinara, a scientific researcher and associate professor at Tashkent University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Usbekistan, has been exploring sustainable urban development in Uzbekistan since 2020. Her research focuses on climate change, urbanization, and the evolutionary development of cities in Central Asia. She proposes methodologies for enhancing urban design by identifying primary models of spatial development and addressing the challenges of modern urban environments.

Her report and lecture discuss theoretical models of city evolution, sustainable development paths, and urban transport infrastructure improvements. She highlights issues such as vegetation degradation, biodiversity loss, and the creation of heat islands due to extensive urban development and reduced green spaces. This necessitates a shift to sustainable strategies and green construction. Additionally, the report addresses the preservation and infrastructure development of old city residential Mahallas, emphasizing sustainable architecture adapted to the regional climate by integrating traditional architectural features for energy-efficient, low-carbon buildings.

Dinara Nazarova teaches urban planning, history of architecture in Central Asia and Islamic countries, landscape architecture, climate change in architecture, and sustainable architecture theory. She supervises master's and doctoral researchers and has participated in various international and domestic grants related to architecture, sustainable development, and green building. Her stay in Potsdam is funded by the DAAD, ERASMUS + program and El-Yurt Umidi foundations.
