FIDA Symposium "Where the Shoe Pinches"

The Research Institute for Heritage Conservation and Archaeometry, FIDA for short, was founded on the 3^rd of February 2005 and since then has been researching current issues relating to the preservation and conservation of buildings in a small, interdisciplinary association of researchers from the field of heritage conservation. By founding the association, Wolfram Köhler realised his idea of creating an appropriate, multidisciplinary platform that is dedicated to working on diverse aspects of conservation science at a professional level. Since then, 22 scientists from four countries have been working on a voluntary basis to make basic research usable for heritage conservation, museums and archaeology.

FIDA has also repeatedly supported students studying conservation and restoration, specialising in stone, as part of the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship and thus contributes not only in terms of content but also financially to the promotion of young talent in the field of Conservation and Restauration.

This year's FIDA conference, which will take place for the third time in a row on the 11^th of October at the FH Potsdam, is being organised in cooperation with Prof. Jeannine Meinhardt, herself a long-standing member of the FIDA Scientific Advisory Board. Under the title "Where the shoe pinches" – Current issues on causes of damage and conservation, the conference programme is once again diverse. In addition to established experts from the field of heritage conservation and conservation science, including Dr. Eberhard Wendler, honorary professor of conservation and restoration, several students and a graduate of HAWK Hildesheim will once again be presenting their projects. One of the student projects presented is based on the Prof-Dual Tandem of Prof. Dr. Jeannine Meinhardt and Dr. Corinna Grimm-Remus at Halberstadt Cathedral, which is funded as part of the federal-state programme "FH-Personal". In addition to increasing the students' concrete practical experience, the project is pursuing several research questions, one of which, metal corrosion and how to deal with it, will be presented at the conference. In addition, the exemplary cooperative project position is designed to ensure that Dr. Corinna Grimm-Remus strengthens or acquires the qualifications required for a university professorship in the triad of teaching, research and professional practice.
