• 1994 Doctorate in Philosophy at the Department of Education and Teaching Sciences at the Berlin University of the Arts; dissertation on the topic: "Reggio-Pädagogik. Analysis and interpretation of a concept of pre-school education" ("summa cum laude")
• 1990 – 1996 Research assistant at the Berlin University of the Arts, research and teaching activities on concepts of elementary and primary school education, aesthetic education, spatial design, language and literacy acquisition, development of children's drawings
• 1988 – 1999 Lecturer in further education and training courses for various organisations as well as teaching at the "Associació de Mestres Rosa Sensat" (educators' association) in Barcelona / Spain, advising educators and representatives of the administration
• 1981 – 1988 Employee at the Free University of Berlin in the Institute for Early Childhood Education (Head: Prof. E.K. Beller) and employee in the school experiment "Coordinated Bilingual Literacy" (Head: Prof. J. Zimmer)
• 1979 – 1986 Studied educational science and psychology in Münster, Berlin and Parma / Italy, specialising in early childhood education and adult education, including research stays in Reggio Emilia and Barcelona
