New Ways into the FH;P – Summer School and Study-Related Courses
"Neue Wege in die FH;P" is a pilot project of the Department of Civil Engineering funded by the Ministry of Economics, Research and Culture from the European Social Fund, which is divided into the two sub-projects summer school and study-accompanying courses.
Summer School
The Department of Civil Engineering would like to increase the number of female students in its degree programmes and is focusing on actively recruiting students at an early stage. Thus, the summer school is intended to enable young women from grade 10 to participate in a one-week workshop and to provide initial insights into the professional world of civil engineering – with plenty of time to discover, explore and try things out. In order to maintain contact with the applicants until the time they choose their course of study, it is also planned to provide targeted support and assistance to the young women, e.g. within the framework of school projects.
Further information can be found on the Summer School website.
Courses accompanying studies
Once enrolled at university, some students find it difficult to adjust to their studies. At almost all universities, most students drop out within the first two semesters. In order to counteract this development, additional online-supported accompanying courses are being developed within the framework of this sub-project for the basic subjects Mathematics for Civil Engineers and Statics. These courses enable students to prepare individually for the exams and examinations, in particular also for re-sit exams for which there is no accompanying lecture. At the same time, they offer the opportunity to specifically revise and prepare the contents of the lecture, independent of time and place.
The student body at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam is very heterogeneous; many students have to work alongside their studies and are very involved in their families. These students are dependent on flexible learning opportunities, such as those developed by this project, in order to successfully complete their studies.
