Retrospective

Review of the Online Event "Podcasting for Libraries and Archives"

On the 12th of March 2025, the three-hour online event "Podcasting for Libraries and Archives" took place, which was organised by the Brandenburg State Office for Archives and Public Libraries. The workshop was aimed equally at colleagues from archives and public libraries in Brandenburg and offered a comprehensive introduction to the world of podcasting.

Alexander Ries, from the Excellence Strategy at the University of Tübingen, guided the participants through the various aspects of podcasting. He began with the fundamental question: "Why create a podcast at all?", and used good and best practice examples to provide convincing arguments that emphasised the benefits of in-house or collaborative podcasts for libraries and archives.

As the workshop progressed, participants were given practical instructions on how to record themselves and interview partners. Technical and structural requirements as well as suitable equipment for podcast recording were presented in detail. The tips on how to easily publish podcasts on multiple platforms and the supportive use of AI tools, for example in finding topics, structuring and also as a competent partner for speaking exercises, were particularly helpful.

The workshop was a complete success and offered the participants not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical tips and tricks that they can apply directly. The event impressively demonstrated that creating a podcast for libraries and archives is easier than you might think and opened up new possibilities for digital communication and public relations work.

We would like to thank all participants and Alexander Ries for this informative and inspiring workshop.
