On the occasion of his appointment as Professor of Design and Building Construction at the Department of CITY I BUILDING I CULTURE, Prof. Peter Eingartner will hold his inaugural lecture on the 8th of January 2024 entitled "Windows, façades, city. The window as an element shaping the cityscape".

Windows, facade, city
The window as an element that characterises the cityscape

The wall opening as well as its covering and closing device is structurally complex; at the same time – and perhaps precisely for this reason – the window is one of the most expressive elements in architecture: the way in which it is designed determines the character of a building – and, multiplied in an urban context, shapes the cityscape as a whole. Various examples from the history of architecture, from current building projects and examples of our own projects illustrate the outstanding importance of window design for the overall effect of the architectural appearance of a building and show possibilities for fine-tuning, also with regard to regional specifics.
