FHP delegation visits the Technical University of Kenya
A delegation from Potsdam University of Applied Sciences (FHP) travelled to the Technical University of Kenya (TU-K) in Nairobi at the beginning of the week to explore the potential for strategic cooperation. The two Vice Presidents for Research and Transfer and for Digitalisation and Internationalisation, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Heisig and Prof. Constanze Langer, took part in the meeting together with representatives of the Information Sciences Department, Prof. Dr. Veit Köppen and Prof. Dr. Julia M. Struß. They were welcomed by Prof Paul Wambua, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of TU-K for Institutional Development and Corporate Cooperation.
Fact Finding Mission
The exchange focuses on opportunities to design joint projects in the field of information sciences that promote international research, knowledge exchange and cultural dialogue. Prof Wambua emphasised that TU-K is interested in partnerships that both strengthen institutional development and offer students and teachers access to new experiences. "Our research faces different challenges than in Europe, which opens up exciting synergies and new perspectives on globally relevant topics," explained Prof. Wambua.
The talks focused on the topics of information and data management, digitalisation and innovative educational formats. Peter Heisig, Vice President for Research and Transfer at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences, emphasised the importance of international partnerships for the further development of the Department of Information Sciences. "We see this as an excellent opportunity to create new scientific perspectives and valuable experiences for students and researchers in order to prepare them for the global requirements in information sciences," said Prof. Heisig, Professor of Information and Knowledge Management.
Prof. Dr. Constanze Langer, Professor of Visual Interface Design, also emphasised the importance of this exchange: "The dialogue between our universities opens up opportunities for innovative digital teaching and learning formats that go far beyond the traditional model," explained Prof. Constanze Langer. She added that the delegation would like to develop clear ideas for the next steps by the end of the visit in order to lay the foundations for a memorandum of understanding and identify suitable funding programmes.
The TU-K representatives emphasised that they would like to significantly increase the opportunities for knowledge transfer and social change through the cooperation. The university had only recently introduced master's programmes in library science and records management, which was seen as a valuable basis for the planned cooperation with the Information Science Department at the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences, as there are great points of contact.
The return visit of a Kenyan delegation to Potsdam, supported by the DAAD, is planned for December. The aim is to agree the next steps of the cooperation in concrete terms and to lay the foundations for a sustainable partnership.
