Together for Fundamental Democratic Values, Diversity and Academic Freedom

Lecture series at University of Applied Sciences Neubrandenbur, University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden and University of Applied Sciences Stralsund in the summer semester 2024

(Universities of applied sciences prepare students for complex professional activities in society through comprehensive, multi- and transdisciplinary academic and application-orientated education. As places of study, teaching, research, further education and transfer, they are actors of democratic culture, where people of different ethnic and social backgrounds, languages, sexual orientation, gender identity, culture, religion and ideology realise their right to individual development and education, in accordance with applicable human rights, democratic norms and laws. Accordingly, universities contribute to the promotion of democracy regionally, nationally and internationally.

The series was initiated in order to explicitly explore the relevance of democratic culture both for professional perspectives and for social coexistence with a view to universities in the super election year 2024, in which the European elections are due across the EU and the state elections in three eastern German federal states. With the joint summer lecture series, the participating universities commit themselves to the values of plural democracy, diversity and tolerance and oppose all forms of racism, discrimination, anti-Semitism and inhuman and anti-constitutional behaviour.

The individual lectures are held in presence/online at the participating university locations, so the series is organised as a hybrid. The lecture is aimed at students of all disciplines and is open to other interested parties.

Participation is free of charge.

Please register for the Summer Lecture on Democracy, we will then send you the participation link before the respective lecture. You only need to register once. You can also attend the lectures at the respective university locations.

The lecture series is linked to the Democracy Semester at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. FHP students and lecturers are organising the summer semester 2024 together under the motto #Democracy! All members of the university are invited to actively engage with issues of democracy, diversity and openness through courses, events, research projects and workshops.
