Inaugural Lecture by Dr. Andrés Alfonso Peña Olarte
Dr. Andrés Alfonso Peña Olarte holds his inaugural lecture on the occasion of his appointment as Professor of Foundation Engineering and Soil Mechanics at the Department of Civil Engineering.
Prospects for digital twins in geotechnical engineering
Global challenges such as climate change, a conservative construction industry and the growing investment backlog at national level are putting (public) infrastructures under severe pressure. Digital twins have the potential to enable a more efficient, participatory and resource-efficient design of infrastructure projects throughout their life cycle.
In this inaugural lecture, the concepts, challenges, opportunities and perspectives of digital twins will be discussed and illustrated using an example of probabilistic 3D construction modelling.
The event will be offered as a hybrid. Use the Zoom link to the inaugural lecture to participate online.
