Successful Completion of Further Training in Trauma Pedagogy
On the 9th of November 2024, the second round of the continuing education course "Trauma pedagogy – trauma-sensitive action in child and youth welfare and other fields of practice" under the direction of Prof. Dr. Alexandra Schmidt-Wenzel from the Department of Social and Educational Sciences took place at ZEW.
How does trauma occur? What happens to the body? How do I react to dissociative states, avoidance behaviour or flashbacks? What structural conditions are needed to be able to act professionally and where are the limits of trauma pedagogical work?
These were some of the questions that the participants in last year's training programme addressed. After all, when dealing with traumatised children and young people, it is crucial to understand how they can avoid feelings of helplessness and defence, for example, and create new, secure bonding experiences.
Academic director Alexandra Schmidt-Wenzel, Professor of Pedagogy of the Ages, knows how challenging it can be to provide helpful support to traumatised people and at the same time act in a self-caring manner. As part of the training, participants learnt how to use the inventory of trauma pedagogical diagnostics to analyse individual cases and develop pedagogical framework concepts that are tailored to the specific needs of those affected.
The next round of the trauma pedagogy training programme starts at the end of November and is already fully booked.
