Culture as a Business – in Conversation with Uwe Hanf
In the podcast Gründungsgeist Berlin-Brandenburg, Uwe Hanf, lecturer and luminary in the cultural work programme, meets cultural manager Doreen Löwe and talks to her about image, idealism and the compatibility with a living wage.
Like so many people in the field of culture and media, Uwe Hanf works in two worlds: On the one hand, he is an academic employee and lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam in the Cultural Work programme. On the other hand, he is a freelance consultant and also lectures outside the FHP. He has strongly influenced the cultural work programme, which is unique in Germany. Especially with his realistic attitude towards work that secures a livelihood and that this can be combined with cultural work and the idealistic goals that go with it – in fact, it should!
In the podcast, Uwe Hanf talks about calculating fee rates, the inadequate orientation of the social system for the partially self-employed (aka atypical employees), but also about the changing image of cultural work. His tips for students who decide to become self-employed in the cultural sector are also invaluable.
Uwe Hanf is now in well-deserved retirement. We wish him an equally unforgettable time.
