Potsdam University of Applied Sciences has a new student vice president: Leo Jacob Blohm has taken up the post for the 2024/2025 winter semester. The 24-year-old student will represent the interests of students in the university management for one year. Blohm succeeds Luisa Vallbracht, who has held the position since the winter semester 2023/2024.

In his role as student vice president, Leo Blohm will represent the interests of students at a central level. The future of the university and its development as an important centre of teaching and science in the city of Potsdam are of central concern to him: "I am aware of the importance and history of the UAS within the city, and in the times of change and development that the university will experience in the coming years, I would like to represent the perspective of the student body and stand up for positive developments together through direct involvement in university policy," explains Blohm. "Design in urban, digital and social spaces are the university's guiding principles, and making an impact beyond our studies is the responsibility we all have to face in order to make our contribution to the transformation."

The student vice president is a speciality in the German higher education system. Potsdam University of Applied Sciences was one of the first universities to introduce this position in 2013. Since then, student representatives have been elected annually. There are currently only four other universities in Germany that have created such a position for students.
Leo Blohm's role is to represent the interests of students directly to the university management and to participate in important decisions. This includes membership of the Standing Committee for Studies and Teaching, where key issues relating to the academic and structural development of the university are discussed. He also has the opportunity to represent the student body in important decision-making processes and actively help shape change. The term of office is one year
