Emilia Knabe, M. A.

After studying Political Science (B. A.) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and several years working in technology start-ups, I completed the Product Design programme (B. A.) at the Berlin University of the Arts. I worked as a research assistant at the Design Research Lab at the Berlin University of the Arts, the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society and the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence and successfully completed a Master's degree in Interface Design at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam in 2021. I am currently working as a research assistant at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and the state capital Potsdam on participation in the Smart City Potsdam model project.

PhD in DocDual on the topic of "Sustainable and participatory urban development in the Smart City Potsdam"

The transformation of the city into a smart city harbours challenges, but also opportunities such as greater involvement of residents in decision-making processes. As part of the federal funding programme "Modellkommunen Smart Cities", prototype formats for sustainable and participatory urban development in the Smart City Potsdam are to be developed together with the urban community. The focus of my dissertation project is on researching the accessibility of digital applications in urban planning and participation processes. I am investigating how digital participation offerings can be made more inclusive using design methods and expanded with analogue offerings in order to increase their reach and give more residents the opportunity to participate in the urban development process.
