In cooperation with the Healthy Kids Network Potsdam, the series of events "Elternwissen" was conceived for parents and caregivers of young children. Interested parents are invited to these evenings to discuss various topics related to parenting and the development of children in the first three years of life, to exchange ideas and to network. Initially from February to December 2023, monthly events will be held, most of which will be offered online.
Interested parents can find more information about the event series "Elternwissen" and an overview of dates here: Family Centre Potsdam.
Aims of the Elternwissen event series
- Developmental psychological knowledge about early childhood from 0 to 3 years of age
- Getting to know the network in Potsdam and the surrounding area
- Early claim of support services in the case of stress
Background of the project
The series of events "Elternwissen" with the Healthy Kids Network Potsdam is intended to offer low-threshold family education to all parents and parents with infants and toddlers from 0 to 3 years of age.
Low-threshold family offers are of particular importance, as they provide focused support for families in different life and upbringing situations in the first years of their child's life. The events see themselves as an element of family education. They prepare parents for living together with babies and toddlers, because there are always questions and of course uncertainties especially at the beginning of parenthood: What can we do to ensure that our baby develops healthily? Or what services and contacts can I use for this?
Neutral and low-threshold offers such as the events on "Elternwissen" can be attended spontaneously and selectively. Parents can get an impression, participate, but also leave the offer without any problems. In this way, they are relieved of the worry of making a commitment they cannot cope with or feel "under observation" with their very everyday questions. At the same time, parents who want more information or advice can build up initial contacts and trust through this offer.
Thus, family education is also an important element of prevention for parents who feel stressed and overburdened, either acutely or long term. The "Elternwissen" events can lead to subsequent use of counselling services, such as early counselling.
