Obituary of Prof. Dr. Herbert Staadt

The University of Applied Sciences Potsdam mourns the loss of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Herbert Staadt, who passed away on the 17th of December 2023 at the age of 76.

After studying civil engineering at the Technical University Darmstadt, Herbert Staadt initially worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering at the Technical University Darmstadt and obtained his doctorate in traffic engineering in 1979.

He founded his engineering office StaadtPlan in 1978 and worked as a consultant engineer for traffic planning and traffic engineering.

In 1994, Herbert Staadt was appointed Professor of Transport Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. Students appreciated his application-orientated teaching and benefited from his technical expertise and regional networking. Herbert Staadt supervised countless theses. He also supported his students as they embarked on their careers and remained an important point of contact for them.

From 2004 to 2008, Herbert Staadt was Dean of the Department of Civil Engineering, which he further developed as a centre of excellence in the Berlin-Brandenburg region with an international network.

Herbert Staadt retired at the end of the 2011/2012 winter semester, but remained closely associated with the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.
We will remember him as an outstanding teacher, reliable mentor and highly esteemed colleague.
